Our engagement story!

So on July 17, 2016 my boyfriend, Tommy, proposed to me! (We are so excited!!) But let me start from the beginning…

We met on Tinder (yes, Tinder as in the App) in May of 2014. I almost swiped left (the same as saying “no” to someone) because he was 12 years older than me – he was 33 and I was 21 at the time. But I decided his pictures were cute so I swiped right. He must have swiped right earlier because as soon as I did we became a “match.” Tommy messaged me first and said “You are riding a horse, there is a giraffe running next to you, and a lion chasing you. What do you do?” I was not sure what the right answer was so I said something silly like “jump onto the lion’s back and ride the lion.” He said “Wait until the ride is over, then hop off the carousel.” LOL…

He thought I was going to be a “catfish” (google it if you aren’t familiar) so we exchanged phone numbers and talked on the phone. We also became “friends” on Facebook so that he knew I was a “real person” LOL.

We had our first date on June 1, 2014 at Roy’s in Jacksonville Beach. After that we started seeing each other a lot. We had our second date June 14, 2014 at the Florida Country Super Fest which was a concert with a bunch of country music stars (Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, etc.). We took his boat to the stadium downtown – while on the boat I missed a step on the ladder and fell down from the top tower area to the boat deck (so embarrassing!). I acted like it didn’t bother me but it hurt pretty bad (but the champagne made it hurt less). The next day when I woke up my hand was so swollen – I had to go to the ER. My mom said that Tommy was not going to want to hang out with me again LOL! He ended up sending me flowers (probably because he thought I would sue him… JK but he jokes about that) and we went on another date a week later. Pretty soon after that we became inseparable!

Tommy said “I love you” on October 18, 2014, at Mavericks, a country bar, after going to a Garth Brooks concert.

Tommy and I officially moved in together in March of 2015. Tommy and I moved into our first home together in December of 2015 (which is where we currently live now).

Tommy proposed on July 17, 2016. So back to that story – the day before, July 16th, we decided to go ring shopping for fun. We went to three different stores – Underwoods, Global Diamonds, and Beards. Initially the plan was just to go see what rings I liked and then I figured Tommy would go back and pick it out himself. Well, at the last store, we both found a ring that we LOVED. Tommy ended up buying the ring while I was there (he told me that I would not be getting the ring for awhile)! It was such a surprise. That night we were going on a double date with my parents to the comedy club. Tommy asked my Dad to marry me that night!

The next day, the ring was sized to my size (4 1/2) and was ready to be picked up. We picked up the ring and Tommy let me wear the ring on the ride home to our house. We had to go home and get ready for a friend’s BBQ. I told Tommy that I did not want to take the ring off and he said that he did not want me to either! I was sitting at my vanity in our closet when he asked for the ring back. He then got down on one knee and said “babe, I want to spend the rest of life with you… will you marry me?” Of course I said “Yes!” Our puppy, Bay, witnessed the whole thing (she was sitting on the floor in our closet). This next part of the story is a little hazy because I was in a state of shock – he claims that I said that I did not “take it all in” and that I wanted him to propose again LOL.

We’re so excited to be getting married! We have started to do a little wedding planning. Our wedding won’t be until 2018 because next year I graduate from law school, take the Bar, and hopefully start work (so 2017 will be a crazy year)!
