Our Honeymoon Part II: Wine Country

September 19, 2018

Tommy and I love wine so we knew Napa would be a perfect honeymoon destination for us. We went in February so it was a little chilly but mostly in the 50’s and 60’s. I recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys great wine and food – you have to go at least once! Tommy and I will definitely go back and now it is extra special to us because it is where we honeymooned!

Itinerary

Monday:  We flew into San Francisco from Las Vegas. After flying into San Francisco, we rented a car and drove to Auberge du Soleil – where we stayed for two nights. Auburge du Soleil was amazing! We will definitely stay there again next time.

Driving from San Francisco to Napa Valley

Stopped at IN-N-OUT Burger on our way to Napa – it was Tommy’s first time eating at IN-N-OUT Burger! So delish! I get a grilled cheese 🙂 The fries are “animal style.”

Checking into our room!

All the snacks in your room are complimentary!

Balcony in our room – everything looks dead because it was in the middle of winter!

View from our bedroom

Our room

Del Dotto – 1st winery!

This winery has one of the oldest caves in Napa valley!

First tasting in Napa – it was delicious! We took a bottle back to our hotel and had wine and chocolate on the outdoor balcony – I wore a robe and Uggs (lol the life!).

Driving thru Napa!

Leaving Del Dotto

Dinner at Auberge

Dinner was delicious! It was a multi-course meal that the chef put together. We walked from our hotel room up to the main dinner which is where the restaurant is located.

Tuesday:

Breakfast at Auberge

We sat inside because it was cold but the restaurant had amazing views of the valley!

Delicious bagel

Ready to go wine tasting!

Bubbles at Mumm Napa

Delicious way to start the day!

Spring Mountain

This was one of our favorite stops – definitely a must if you are going to Napa! We found out about Spring Mountain from a man sitting next to us on our flight from Atlanta to Vegas. I had already filled our itinerary months ago but he raved about it so I fit it into our schedule. I am so glad we did because the wine was amazing – they were sampling wine from 2007 and 2008 when most wineries were sampling 2015. Our wine educator, Ish, was awesome as well! Tommy and I were the only people tasting at that appointment so we got a lot of one on one time. We also joined the wine club so now we get sent their wine quarterly!

Peju

We visited Peju on recommendation by the sommelier at Medure (a local restaurant in Ponte Vedra Beach). Tommy and I ordered Peju at Medure and liked it so we figured we would stop by the winery!

We made the mistake this day of not eating lunch in between tastings…do not recommend.

Caymus

We were excited to go to Caymus because we occasionally drink their wines at home! It was very laidback tasting experience and we really enjoyed our time there.

They give you blankets while you sit and taste outside!

After four tastings, we did not go out to dinner! We called it an early night.

Wednesday:

Breakfast at Auberge

We sat outside under heaters!

Tommy had salmon breakfast pizza

About to check out of our room!

Checking into Bardessono

We checked into the next hotel! Bardessono is located in Yountville within walking distance of shops and restaurants!

Had to take a bath in this tub!

Hallway to the bathroom

Duckhorn

On our first date ever, we had a bottle of Decoy at Roys in Jacksonville Beach. Decoy is owned by Duckhorn so we wanted to do a tasting at Duckhorn! Wine was delicious as always.

Sterling

I wanted to go to Sterling because they had an aerial tram that takes you from the parking lot to the winery. It was a gorgeous view! The wine tasting was average, not our favorite but still fun to visit!

Dinner at Bottega

We ate at Bottega which was in walking distance from Bardessono – the cuisine was mostly Italian food. It was very good! We were exhausted from the time change and from the past few days of winery hopping.

Thursday:

Breakfast at Bardessono – Lucy’s Restaurant

Delicious breakfast – avocado toast, french fries (lol we were on vacay!), and potatoes. We had more than this but that is just what a took pictures of

Stags’ Leap

We loved our experience at Stags’ Leap! We joined the wine club here too and now get shipments back to the house. There are two different Stags Leaps’ in Napa Valley – there is Stags’ Leap and Stag’s Leap – the difference is where the apostrophe is! The wine here was delicious and the house on the property is gorgeous.

Lunch – R+D Kitchen Yountville

Delicious avocado and goat cheese sandwich!

Silverado

Silverado is another wine we enjoy so we wanted to stop in while we were in Napa! The views were gorgeous.

Catching a little bit of sun!

Silver Oak

Silver Oak is another wine that we enjoy at home so that is why we went on our trip! The wine was delicious. The experience was not anything too special however we did not go on a tour, we just did a tasting.

Plumpjack

We stopped into Plumpjack to do a tasting! It was not on the itinerary but we drove past and I called and they told me “walk-ins” were fine so we stopped for one last tasting! We took a bottle of Plumpjack with us to dinner that night.

Dinner at Cole’s Chophouse

What vegetarians order at a chop house 🙂

Friday:

Breakfast at Bardessono

View on the walk back to our hotel room.

We left wine country this day to head to San Francisco! I’ll share that part of our honeymoon in the next blog post – honeymoon part III. We had the best time in wine country and cannot wait to go back. It was seriously the best honeymoon! Delicious food, amazing wine, gorgeous views, and cooler weather!
