First trimester

October 26, 2018

Baby announcement photos! I was almost 13 weeks.

My first ultrasound and pregnancy appointment! Baby Madison was so tiny!

My second ultrasound and doctor appointment! She grew so much in just a few weeks.

The first test I took – the second line is soooo light!

One of the many other tests I took in the days that followed.

4 weeks pregnant – right after I found out!

My pregnancy is truly flying by which is why I need to catch up and post about the first and second trimester because I am now in my third!

If you read my post announcing my pregnancy, you know that I found out early on that I was pregnant – at approximately 4 weeks. I felt really tired throughout the first trimester – I remember coming home from work and just going straight to lay down because my energy was zapped. I was really fortunate though because I really did not feel nauseous or sick at all. I did get an actual head cold during the first trimester which sucked because you are not allowed to take like any medicine so you just have to be miserable.

Tommy and I told our families at about 5-6 weeks once I took about 10 more pregnancy tests. We waited to tell most friends until I was much further along. But it was hard to hide because I never decline a glass of wine at dinner. I told work I was pregnant once I went to the OBGYN for the first time at about 9 weeks – once we heard and saw a heartbeat and the baby on the ultrasound. Hearing and seeing our baby for the first time was so cool! I literally could not believe it, it is such a surreal feeling.

We announced on social media at the end of the first trimester when I was about 2 days shy off 13 weeks. It was such a hard secret to keep because we both wanted to share it with everyone!

I didn’t gain any weight the first trimester. I did not “show” at all my first trimester – you couldn’t tell at all that I was pregnant. I stopped working out because the energy that I did have, had to be used on work. I was not about to wake up at 5:30am to make it to 6:00am Pure Barre when it was hard enough to get up for work. I stopped drinking coffee and alcohol (of course!) as soon as we found out. Those are really the only dietary changes that I made. I do remember being really put off by certain foods during the first trimester. For example, I love avocado toast and during the first trimester thinking about eating it made me almost feel nauseous. But all of those things that I was put off by changed once I was in my second trimester.

We found out that my blood type is A- so I had to get the Rhogam shot since the baby could be Rh positive. Overall I had a really easy first trimester! I will admit that I spent a lot of time wondering whether the baby was “real” and still growing until I  went to the doctor because I didn’t have very many symptoms. That is another reason I took so many pregnancy tests because I wanted to make sure I was still pregnant!
