Sharing all about my second trimester today! The baby board I use in my pictures is linked HERE!
Dress – from Tobi
My second trimester was the best trimester for me. The energy that I was lacking during my first trimester returned in the second. Since I felt less tired, I tried to be a little more active – taking walks, occasionally going to Pure Barre, etc.
I traveled a lot (Nashville, NYC twice, Washington DC, and Houston) during the second trimester and was glad that we planned those trips during that time. Towards the end of the second trimester, sitting on the plane got uncomfortable because it felt like the baby was sitting near my ribs and was really uncomfortable -it felt like a burning pain.
We also found out that baby C is a girl which was so exciting! Secretly, I really wanted a girl. I just think that little girls are so sweet and all the clothes and bows! I would have been happy either way of course! We picked a name too – Madison Lynn. Tommy came up with the name Madison. Lynn is my middle name and my mom’s first name. Tommy is planning on calling her Madi for short.
We started brainstorming about her nursery. We knew that we would use the bedroom next to our room which was currently being used as the office/gym room. I wanted her nursery to be peaceful and relaxing so I planned on using a lot of white with pops of blush. The nursery chair that I bought is blush so that will be the statement piece of the room. The crib we bought is white. We are currently in the process of having her room and our second floor hallway drywalled because our house is really old and the walls are textured. Our house was built in 1905 so the walls are plaster and lathe. A lot of the walls have wallpaper over them too which makes for an odd texture. The house was moved on a barge from Old Pottsburg Creek area in Jacksonville (off of N. University Blvd.) to Palm Valley in 1984. I think that also caused the house to settle more and make some of the walls an odd texture. So anyway, that is why we are having the drywall done! Once that is finished, we will have the walls painted and then probably do some sort of wainscoting/trim work on the walls in her room. I can’t wait to have everything done and all her things put away! I will do a blog post about her nursery once it is done.
I also officially started to show – my bump became much more prominent towards the end. I think around 22 -24 weeks it started to look more obvious that I was pregnant. I stopped looking like I just ate too much LOL. I did have some back pain so I started going to a chiropractor. I think it has helped me! My chiropractor specializes in pregnancy and babies which is perfect.
One of the negatives was towards the end of the second trimester when I had a few episodes where I felt like I was going to pass out – basically hypoglycemia where my blood sugar dips really low. Sometimes I felt like that before I was pregnant too so it was not super new to me but it felt like the episodes were worse now that I am pregnant. It turns out, I was not eating enough/often enough so now I keep snacks with me and try to eat smaller meals more frequently. I also had my gestational diabetes test which I passed. The glucose drink that you have to drink is not bad at all. The worst part is that they don’t let you have any water/food until they draw your blood one hour after drinking the glucose drink. Now, I wasn’t hungry but I was super thirsty because drinking the glucose drink is like eating a big piece of cake (or something sugary) and then not being able to wash it down with water. I started feeling really bad like I was going to pass out right before they drew my blood – I started getting lightheaded, nauseous, hot, seeing stars, feeling shaky, etc. As soon as they drew my blood, I laid down, drank water, and had a granola bar and felt so much better!
I think that pretty much sums up my second trimester!
