Hi friends! Since I have received so many questions about Madison’s sleep training, I figured that I might as well do a blog post about it.
When did we start?
We started last month – September! Madison turned 9 months old on September 2nd. We started on September 22nd.
What sleep course did you do?
We did TakingCaraBabies – link HERE.
Which TakingCaraBabies course did you do?
The 5-24 month course.
Did you do the phone consults?
No, we didn’t.
How long does the course take to start working?
The sleep training takes two weeks.
How often was Madison waking up before sleep training?
She was waking up anywhere between 2 times a night to six times a night. She was sleeping in our bed and nursing throughout the night. She also would have to nurse to fall asleep.
How long did it take for Madison to sleep thru the night?
The second night of sleep training she slept thru the night!
Does the course cover naps?
Yes, it does!
Is there crying involved?
Yes, there is some crying involved. I chose Cara’s course because she has a fairly gentle approach. The reason your baby cries during the sleep training is because their routine has been changed. All of Madison’s needs are met before we put her down for bed.
Have you traveled with her since starting sleep training?
Yes, we have! We went to New York and Melbourne Beach and kept her sleeping in a crib both times. Both times she slept thru the night.
Does the course help with naps?
Yes! Naps have been a game changer. Before the course, Madison was napping in my bed, on me, or in the carseat on the go. Now, she happily goes down in her crib for a nap. Before the class, her naps were short, always less than an hour. Now, they are always at least an hour!
One thing that we always do every night before bedtime is a bedtime routine! It helps Madison relax and prepare for bedtime. Many of the products we use for bedtime are from Walmart. It is also Walmart’s exclusive baby brand’s 20th anniversary – Parent’s Choice! Walmart also carries Hello Bello, which one of my friends told me about! Hello Bello makes diapers with adorable prints on them. I recently ordered them to try them out and they work great.
We feed her dinner around 6:30pm and once she is done we start bath time! We usually start bath time around 7pm. We just started giving her bubble baths which she loves! We use THIS bubble bath. And I recently ordered THIS inflatable bathtub. She loves playing with rubber ducks and other toys in the bathtub, like THESE!
After bath time, we bring her into her room and get her dressed for bed. We dim the lights and have the white noise maker playing. I highly recommend THIS white noise maker – you can control it with an app on your phone! After she is dressed, I nurse her. After that, we brush her teeth, read a book, say a prayer, and then put her down for bed!
